HAYWOOD COUNTY, Tenn. – A Shelby County deputy killed his wife and then himself over then weekend in Haywood County, according to Haywood County Sheriff Billy Garrett Jr.
Domestic violence is an ongoing issue in Memphis, in the United States, and across the world.
Sheriff Garrett told FOX13 that Sharron Sangster Lee, an employee of the Madison County Sheriff’s Office and wife of Anthony Lee, called deputies around 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 14.
She told deputies that her husband Anthony Lee had pulled a gun on her, according to Garrett.
When deputies got to the scene they said they found Sharon Lee dead with multiple gunshot wounds and Anthony Lee dead from a single gunshot wound.
The month of September is Suicide Prevention Month and FOX13 knows that asking for help can be hard.
Both bodies, as well as a gun, were found inside of a truck on the property in the 300 block of TJ Mize Road, Garrett said.
Both bodies were sent to the medical examiner’s office in Memphis, but the sheriff said that it appears the two died of a murder-suicide.
“Our deepest sympathy is extended to the families and has been expressed to both sheriffs offices,” Garrett said.
Madison County Sheriff Julian Wiser released a statement about Sharon, who had worked in the corrections division in Madison County for a dozen years.
Wiser said, “It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of our Corrections Officer, Sharon Sangster Lee.
“Sharon’s absence will be deeply felt, and her memory will forever be cherished within our walls. Our thoughts and prayers are with Sharon’s family and loved ones during this difficult time. We will be forever grateful for the dedication and service she provided to Madison County.”
